About us

Who is BCR?

Brisbane City Rollers is a co-ed flat track roller derby league based in Ipswich. It has fought its way through the ranks and become a serious league of committed athletes. Although we do not bout co-ed, BCR allows both men and women to train and play this amazing sport.

BCR had its first bout in late 2009 and then started its bouting season in 2010, we are training hard to become a hard hitting, well trained, strategically savvy league. BCR currently fields two all-female travel teams (the Punk Blockers and the Nasty Nancies), as well as three intra-league teams. Our intra-league merby teams are The Frankies and The Uppercuts.

BCR are very much a traditional DIY, skater owned and operated roller derby league. We are committed to building up the amazing sport of Roller Derby and giving as many people as possible the opportunity to play this great sport.

Our mission is to grow as a competitive, committed, focused roller derby league. We will continue to be a league that provides its players with support, mental and physical strength, opportunity and acceptance of diversity, while encouraging personal growth and development on and off the track.

BEGINNINGS

BCR was formed over a BBQ lunch on New Years day, 2009. It was started with a core group of skaters with similar goals in mind. We were an eclectic bunch of freshies, experienced skaters and down right skating dare devils!

The goal was to have a true “by the skaters for the skaters” league. There was a lot of work done in those early days to get this league started. Everyone played their own part but the majority of the initial paper work and other mundane tasks were taken care of by Dollzilla, Evil Doll, Beatdown Belle, Dead Meat and Hit N Run. As time went on many more skaters have joined the ranks and each played an important part in our development.

We have had many challenges as the league has grown but each time something didn’t go to plan, we just dusted ourselves off and moved onwards and upwards. It's the BCR way.

BCR has come a long way. We started out a scrappy bunch of misfits and have grown into a formidable league with wins under our belt.
